UHP will be holding a Diabetes Clinic on Saturday, September 22nd, and we would like some volunteers to help out. This clinic holds tremendous value in the community — diabetes has a large prevalence in Grenada, but most patients are unable to manage their disease properly due to a lack of access to healthcare. As such, the clinic serves as a source of primary care for many of these patients.
You will have the opportunity to experience patient encounters where many of them will view and treat you as their doctor. You will take full medical histories and perform all relevant physical examinations (i.e. blood pressure, blood glucose, cardiovascular, foot checks, etc). Volunteer physicians will be available for further patient consultation.
Professional attire, including your white coat, are required. Full PD kits (including gloves) are also required.
We will be serving at the Grand Anse Health Expo. There will be two groups going to the clinic. For the first group, buses will leave from Charter Hall at 8:30am and return to campus around 12:30pm. The second group will leave at 12:30pm and return by 4:00pm. Lunch will be provided for both groups.
Volunteering at the Diabetes Clinic will fulfill 2 academic hours and 2 social hours for the term.
Signups are first come, first served basis. Spots fill up very quickly! If you do receive a spot and you need to cancel at any point, you will not be allowed to sign up for any future clinics.
Signups will open on Saturday, September 8th at noon.
